Maxwell Angode, aged 29 was first noticed by this organization on 7th December 2021.
This happened when he was found seeking for help from a nearby church close to our office. He was stranded after he found out the church was closed and as he was about to lose hope. A good Samaritan spotted him and noticed that he was visually impaired.
He came to his aid and directed him to our evangelist Zipporah’s office, who is the founder and the current CEO of Save A Life Refuge Center International. When she met him, she quickly noted that his health condition was poor hence took her time to understand the problem he was undergoing and that is when she learnt that he was diabetic and in great pain. As the conversation went on, she learnt that he was an orphan, homeless and with no guardian since he had just been kicked out from where he used to live due to his visual impairment. She further learnt that he had gone for 2 days without food and water and he looked very weak and sickly.
She immediately bought food and water and sort to know more about him and his guardian, because she could not take in a stranger, In a couple of days, an arrangement was made to meet with the guardian After which, he clearly admitted he’s not ready and willing to continue taking care of him due to his disability hence handing him to evangelist Zipporah on humanitarian grounds.
She saw the need to go seek for medical aid at the Coast General Hospital and after thorough medical observations; it was found that he had uncontrollable sugar levels that forced him to be admitted for 3 weeks.
It was later discovered in the process of treatment that the uncontrolled high sugar levels was the main cause of his visual impairment. After being discharged from the hospital, he was put under close monitor by doctors and attended regular clinic sessions whereby the doctors recommended surgery on both of his eyes to remove cataracts that were causing the visual impairment.
At first, the surgery could not go forth due to financial costs that were beyond her means but we thank God because in the process of seeking the required finances from well-wishers, we got Information that there was a free eye camp courtesy of Lions Medical Center (Club), that was to be held at Bwagamoyo primary school Rabai Kaloleni, Kilifi county.
CEO Zipporah in conjunction with the Save A Life team organized to take him to the clinic which was conducted on the 11th of September 2022. After observation, Maxwell was booked in for admission at Lions Mombasa center eye clinic the following Monday, 12th of September 2022, for a surgery that was successfully done on his right eye and he confirmed that his eye sight was restored. He was discharged the following day the 13th of September. He was required to go back for reviews in one weeks’ time, after which the doctor will give direction on the other eye surgery.
We truly appreciate and thank the Lions Medical Center for their support and help in making Maxwell’s dream come true by seeing.
